Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the relationship between students' scores on the measures of self-esteem, hopelessness and psychological resilience, as well as to know the percentage of the contribution of each of self-esteem and hopelessness in predicting psychological resilience among university students. The research sample in its final form consisted of (200) students from Qassim University (80 males and 120 females), their ages ranged between 18-20 years (mean = 18.3 years, standard deviation = 4.61). This sample is the one who returned the questionnaires to the researcher after completing them. The questionnaires were distributed to (286) students. After sorting the questionnaires, it was found that there are a number of students who did not complete all the questionnaires (their number is 6 students), and then it was found that their questionnaires were excluded (80) students. The results of the correlation analysis showed that there is a correlation between resilience, despair, and self-esteem. Where resilience was positively associated with self-esteem, as the correlation coefficient was (r = 0.269, at the level of significance 0.01), and negatively with hopelessness, and the correlation coefficient reached (r = - 0.234, at the level of significance 0.01), and hopelessness was negatively associated with self-esteem, with a coefficient of (0.01). t = - 0.266, at the significance level (0.01). The results also indicated that the independent variables self-esteem and hopelessness when combined together; They resulted in a multiple regression coefficient (R) of (0.332) and a multiple correlation square of (0.110), indicating that they affect (11.0%) of the total variance in the psychological resilience of the study sample. This is attributed to the combination of self-esteem and hopelessness, as it was found that the analysis of variance for the multiple regression data revealed that the value of (F) is significant at the level (0.01), as the value of (F (6-320) = 17.398), at the level of significance (0.01).
