The social context and its impact on representing Al-Mutanabbi's intentions

Abstract

This study seeks to uncover the social contexts that shaped the intentional background of al-Mutanabbī, through which he selected strategies aligned with the societal environment in which he lived. Accordingly, social contexts constitute the primary framework for interpretation and analysis in al-Mutanabbī’s poetic discourse, as examined through a pragmatic approach. the central research problem is articulated in the following question: To what extent did the social context contribute to the articulation of al-Mutanabbī’s communicative intentions through the strategies and modes by which he produced his poetic discourse? the study is organized around selected social themes that significantly influenced the poet’s thought and beliefs, including the family; laudatory expressions; the deconstruction of pride in forefathers and lineage-based elitism; the praise of courage in warfare; envy; and representations of women. The study concludes with a presentation of its findings. Among the most significant results is that the social context exerted a clear and tangible influence on the representation of al-Mutanabbī’s intentions, as the features of his society are distinctly reflected in his poetry.
