The Approach of Imam Mahdawi in Interpretation through his book “Al-Taḥṣill Li Fawā’id Al-Tafṣil Al-Jāmiˊ Li Oloum Al-Tanzil”

Abstract

    This study aims at explaining and introducing the approach of Imam Abu Al-Abbas Ahmed bin Ammar Al-Mahdawi in interpretation through his book “Al-Taḥṣill Li Fawā’id Al-Tafṣil Al-Jāmiˊ Li Oloum Al-Tanzil”.

To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher has used the analytical and inductive method. The study has come out with a number of results, mainly: Al-Mahdawi extracted and interpreted verses about rulings in the light of what was traced back to the Prophet Mohammed, PBUH, his companions and the followers, focusing on doctrinal differences and giving priority to the Maliki school in deriving these rulings. He relied on “the science of abrogation” in some rulings, but he tackled this science too much. Al-Mahdawi mentioned the various Qira’āt (different types of Quranic Recitings) without providing evidence, in contrary to what he had done in his “Al Kabir Al Tafsil” interpretation and mentioned the abnormal Recitings without mentioning the reasons for their abnormality.
