Abstract

 A major component of the cost of a house in developing countries is that of building materials. This is particularly true for low – cost housing and self – help housing schemes. Soil has been and continues to be the most widely used housing construction material. It provides adequate protection against hot and cold weather conditions in view of its high thermal capacity and insulating characteristics.
