The Concept of Human rights in Islam included in the Islamic culture curriculum

Abstract

Issues related to human rights are among the most important issues in our social, political, and educational life. Including human rights in educational curricula and educating students to practice it in their lives is an important educational contribution to raising the level of students’ awareness about human rights.The current study aimed at clarifying and revealing the concept of human rights contained in the curriculum of the Islamic culture and verify the extent to which the curricula included the concept of human rights in Islam. The study relied on the analytical descriptive approach (Content Analysis). After reviewing the core issues, the study reached a number of results, including: The Islamic Culture curriculum at the Arabic language Institute at King Khalid University has contributed to the consolidation of the concept of human rights and included some human rights from the perspective of Islam with satisfactory degree, and these rights include the following aspects: political and civil rights, educational and cultural rights, social rights and economic rights.The research reported that the total number of occurrences of the concept of human rights reached 56 concepts, and social rights ranked first among the rights achieved and the percentage of the concept of human rights in this field reached 39%, then political and civil rights came in second place with a percentage of 29%, followed by economic rights in third place with a rate of 18%, then educational and cultural rights in fourth place with a rate of 14%. The research also found that the word (human rights) was repeated in the curriculum 62 times. The study also stated that, according to Islam, human being has rights protected by Islamic law during his life and even after his death, and one of the characteristics of these rights is that they are of divine origin, they are fixed rights that cannot be modified or changed given by God to a human since He created him. While human rights known today in the international community in the West are rights that have political relations, and interest, one of its characteristics is that its original source is people's opinions that can be changed, renewed and modified at any time according to changing of interests.The results also showed that there are aspects and areas of agreement between human rights in general and some human rights in Islam, but Islam’s concept of human rights is more precise and clear, Islam as a religion is distinguished by being the first to establish the principles of human rights in all aspects of human life.
