Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the use of the Learning Contracts strategy to develop reading skills and enhance academic achievement in English for sixth-grade students. The study community consisted of sixth-grade students in basic education schools in Al-Seeb, Muscat governorate, Sultanate of Oman, and the study sample consisted of (27) students. The researchers employed a quasi-experimental approach as the research method and utilized observation cards, pre-tests, and post-tests to measure the impact of the learning contracts strategy on the academic achievement level in the English language as the study tools. The study yielded several results, including the existence of statistically significant differences at a significance level of (0.05) between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group for the observation card regarding the performance aspect of English language reading skills in favor of the post-test. The study recommended various recommendations, including the necessity of encouraging teachers to conduct continuous oral tests for students to observe their development in English language reading skills.
