Abstract

This study aimed to explore the current contribution of the nonprofit sector in providing essential, educational, and health services, as well as employment opportunities for the poor. It also sought to identify the obstacles affecting the delivery of these services. The study adopted a descriptive approach using social survey methodology through a questionnaire tool. The study sample consisted of (108) participants who were beneficiaries of services provided by 13 nonprofit associations and organizations in Riyadh. The findings revealed that the nonprofit sector plays an effective role in offering training and employment services, which received the highest rating from beneficiaries, with a mean score of (4.2). This was followed by educational services (4.16), essential services (3.93), and health services (3.72). The key services provided included vocational training programs, educational material distribution, food and financial aid, and organizing productive family exhibitions. However, the study uncovered major obstacles impacting the effectiveness of these organizations, such as insufficient funding to meet the needs of impoverished families, weak collaboration between nonprofits and governmental entities, and difficulties accessing services due to distance or lack of transportation. Cultural and social challenges, as well as weak administrative and organizational capacities, also emerged as limiting factors. The study proposed a vision to improve the performance of nonprofit organizations, emphasizing enhanced cooperation between governmental, private, and nonprofit sectors, the development of innovative and sustainable funding strategies, and the improvement of service quality, with a focus on marginalized groups such as individuals with special needs. In conclusion, the study highlighted the importance of the nonprofit sector as a fundamental pillar in combating poverty, stressing the need to improve internal strategies and external coordination to effectively meet the needs of impoverished families in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision (2030).
