Abstract

The current research aims to reveal the degree of possession of the second intermediate grade students of the principles of self-regulated learning and its relationship to their need for knowledge in science from their point of view in Baquba district, for the academic year 2022-2023 AD, by exploring the point of view of a sample of second intermediate students in schools It reached (348) male and female students, and for the purpose of achieving the objectives of the research, two research tools were prepared, which were represented by the self-regulated learning scale, which included (4) areas (defining the goal and planning for it, memorizing and recitation, searching for information, asking for help) and by (18) paragraphs. As for the second part, it included the measure of the need for knowledge, which consisted of (20) items distributed in three areas: (busy thinking, enjoying thinking, seeking knowledge). The average second grade students for self-learning was above average, and there were differences due to the gender variable in of females, and the results related to the need for knowledge scale indicated that it was high. The researchers also added a set of recommendations and proposals, the most prominent of which is the need to include science books with a set of activities that promote self-regulated learning among learners, and the need to include the curricula of colleges of education learning methods for learners and training teachers to encourage learners on how to obtain knowledge from its sources and increase it in the future so that the learner can gain experiences precedent and in addition to how to use it in teaching.
