The relative contribution of nostalgia in predicting excessive negative thinking and feelings of familiarity A sample of divorced women in Riyadh

Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the relationship between nostalgia and both feelings of familiarity and excessive negative thinking in a sample of divorced women in Riyadh, and to identify the effect of nostalgia on feelings of familiarity among divorced women in the study sample. The study followed the descriptive comparative correlational approach, and the study sample consisted of (280) divorced women in Riyadh. The study used measures of nostalgia, excessive negative thinking, and familiarity (prepared by the researcher). The results of the study showed that there is a strong positive direct correlation between nostalgia and excessive negative thinking among divorced women, and the presence of a moderate negative inverse correlation between nostalgia and feelings of familiarity among divorced women. It also showed that there is a moderate negative inverse correlation between feelings of familiarity and excessive negative thinking among divorced women. The study also found that there is a positive relative contribution of nostalgia to predicting excessive negative thinking among divorced women in the study sample, while there is Negative relative contribution of nostalgia to predicting feelings of intimacy among divorced women in the study sample.
