The Impact of the Companion's Interpretation on the Apparent Context of the Quranic Text: An Applied and Analytical Study"

Abstract

This study aims at exploring the impact of the Companion’s interpretation on the apparent context of the Quranic text. In such interpretation, the text conflicted with two criteria of interpretation, namely the context of the text itself, and the Companion’s interpretation. There is no doubt that the Companion’s interpretation is considered one of the most important sources of interpretation of the tradition from the linguistic and legal point of view, which made the scholars of investigation among the commentators refer to it. However, some ambiguity has surrounded the truth of this original source in terms of its competition with other criteria in the interpretation of the Quranic text, especially among the interpreters of the Clarity school. The researcher has followed the descriptive, analytical, and applied approach. The researcher finds that it is a must to achieve this important issue, and enriching this subject by defining the interpretation as well as defining the Companion, explaining the importance of his interpretation, and liberating the issue of conflicting interpretive evidence when competing over the intended meaning of the verse. The study concludes that there is a strong need to highlight the impact of the Companion's interpretation on the Qur'anic term when it conflicts with the apparent context of the text. The researcher has recommended to adopt a project concerned with collecting the verses in which the saying of the Companion disagreed with the interpretation of others, whether they are from the followers, or from the interpreters of the modern era, and to study these verses in a comparative study, in the light of the combination of the ancestors and modern trends.
