Abstract

The aim of this study is to emphasize that art goes side by side with life,  which it is influenced by  and it influences it. This is because of its essential  importance, that lurks in its effective contribution to the awareness of the peoples and perpetuation of their events. The boundaries between art and history are not strict, but rather overlapping. Studies have confirmed that printing has emerged since the beginning of the creation. Due to the nature of the medium of  printmaking (papers) as a fragile art, scientific and technical ignorance of how it is handled and preserved, there are only a few copies of the prints that relate to religious images. The printmaking in our Arab countries did not receive the attention required by the book.  For all these reasons , this study has  been made to confirm the  role of printmaking in documentation of history through studying an example of one of  those who documented events of  Palestinian issue by printmaking " Mustafa Al-Hallaj", The study took the historical approach to trace the history of  printmaking and the analytical descriptive approach to analyze the mural of Mustafa Al-Hallaj that documented events of Palestinian issue which is regarded as one of  the longest murals in the world by Al-Hallaj, entitled "Life improvisations" or "River of Life", which is 114 meters long and 36 cm wide as an expression of the Palestinian issue. The study has found that the printmaking  (wood engraving) is a source of documentation of history, and that Mustafa Al-Hallaj is an artist and a distinguished writer who has his own style in documenting the history of the Palestinian cause.
