Journalistic Practice of Media Students on Social Media Platforms: A Field Study on Media Students at University of Saba Region

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the factors related to the insufficient engagement of mass media students in journalistic practices on social media platforms, It also aimed to provide suitable methods to solve this situation, The research utilised many methodological techniques, including an analytical descriptive method for data analysis and interpretation, a documentary descriptive method for information collection from pertinent sources, and an inductive approach, The researcher developed and disseminated a questionnaire to a random sample of 52 participants for data collection and analysisk To strengthen the findings, interviews were performed with five participants exhibiting a pronounced attraction for journalistic editing and media content production, The study disclosed several significant findings, particularly that the percentage of media students practising journalistic work on social media platforms was below the expected level, as it reached (46%), and that most of the published content was republished content from other media outlets, The study also revealed that media students exhibited an increased interest in the artistic field over journalistic editing and media content production, The proportion of media students engaging in journalism on social media platforms was low at (46%), with most published information being reused from other media organisations and journalists, The study identified the main factors contributing to this disengagement as academic and life concerns, time limitations, and technical issues, One of the suggested solutions was the provision of training resources to improve journalistic competencies on social media platforms, The study finished with supplementary results and recommendations to tackle the identified difficulties.
