Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a training program based on some productive habits of mind in developing academic engagement among primary school students with learning disabilities. The sample included 20 female students equally divided into experimental and control groups, aged between 9-12 years (Mage= 10.71, SD= 0.792). This sample was purposively selected from fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students with learning disabilities from some schools in Riyadh city. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with two groups (experimental and control) using pre-test, post-test, and follow-up measurements. The research instruments consisted of an Academic Engagement Scale (developed by the researcher) and a training program comprising 16 sessions over 8 weeks. The results revealed statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test measurements for the experimental group in favor of the post-test across all dimensions of academic engagement. Additionally, significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups in the post-test measurement favoring the experimental group, while no significant differences were observed between post-test and follow-up measurements, indicating the sustained effect of the program.
