A model of the poetry of the Islamic call by Al-Nabigha Al-Ja'diyya

Abstract

Poetry has played an important role in the history of the Islamic call (da‘wah), and this role continues to grow in spreading religious values and Islamic principles. Critics and researchers agree that poetry is distinguished by its strong impact on the human psyche in conveying religious and spiritual messages, and by its ability to express meaning. It is characterized by emotional influence that helps the rapid spread of the call in order to enhance religious awareness. It is a means of using natural language across its various communicative, utilitarian, and creative literary domains. In light of the status of poetry among the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era, the importance of this issue becomes evident. From this perspective, the problem of this research emerged to reflect the role of poetry through the employment of its themes in religious الدعوة during the early period of Islam. The study seeks to achieve the following objectives: clarifying the status of poetry and its role in spreading the Islamic call; explaining the role of the poetry of al-Nābigha al-Ja‘dī and its contribution to his people’s entry into Islam; and examining the resonance of his poetry in Muslim societies. The research relies on several approaches, including the descriptive and analytical methods. The study revealed new poetic trends influenced by the Qur’an and Islamic legislation, such as poetry of الدعوة rejection of idol worship, and addressing polytheists to enter Islam. The effect of the Qur’an appeared clear and evident. The research also demonstrated the status of al-Nābigha’s poetry and its role in spreading the Islamic call, and the emergence of poems calling for the oneness of God, piety, faith in God’s decree, and jihad, as well as calling for moral virtues, performing good deeds, abandoning reprehensible acts, and adhering to acts of worship.
