Research into the particles of meaning (huruf al-ma'ani) and their functional significances in the Holy Quran, particularly the "Lam of Consequence" (Lam al-Aqiba), constitutes a fundamental pillar of contemporary grammatical studies. It contributes to revealing aspects of structural and semantic performance, highlighting the close link between grammar and other linguistic and Sharia sciences. The study of this "Lam" is not limited to dry syntactic analysis; rather, it extends to forming an interpretative tool that prevents semantic awkwardness in specific contexts. From this perspective, the idea for this study emerged to address the semantic and functional confusion between "Causality" (al-Ta'lil) and "Consequence" (al-Aqiba), and the resulting variation in directing exegetical, theological, and legislative meanings. The significance of this research stems from its establishment of criteria for distinguishing between "Purpose/Intent" and "Outcome/Result," thereby sharpening grammatical reasoning and establishing clear rules for dealing with contextual evidence when directing Quranic meaning. The research aims to root the concept of the Lam of Consequence linguistically and idiomatically, and analyze the positions of the grammatical schools (Basran and Kufan) and theologians, while demonstrating its applied impact in enriching creedal, legislative, and narrative contexts. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study is organized into a preliminary chapter and three main sections. The preliminary chapter addresses the reality of the Lam of Consequence; the first section examines scholarly stances toward it; the second section discusses linguistic significances—including linking the referent to the outcome, treating the result as the intent, and the agent's ignorance or incapability; and the third section covers the applied analysis and structural characteristics of its verses. Among the key findings is that "Intent" (al-Qasd) is the core criterion for differentiating between causality and consequence; causality requires the agent's prior knowledge and intent for the result, whereas the Lam of Consequence is used in contexts where the agent is ignorant of the outcome or unable to prevent it. Furthermore, the study introduced the innovative term "Causality of Decree" (al-Ta'lil bi-al-Qada) as a solid reconciliatory formula that aligns the effective divine will with the absence of human intent for the outcome. Ultimately, the study proved that this "Lam" significantly enriches meaning through rhetorical hyperbole regarding the necessity of outcomes and extreme brevity by summarizing complex destinies and rewards within a single particle.Downloads
