Abstract

This study aimed to find out the digital citizenship concepts (DCCs) in the content of civic education textbooks (CETs) for the last three grades of Yemeni basic education (YBE). To this end, a descriptive analytical approach (i.e. content analysis). A card for analyzing DCCs consisted of 78 concepts was developed be the researchers themselves, as an instrument for carrying out this study. The validity and reliability of the instrument were figured out and confirmed, as well. Results of the study revealed that no concept of DCCs were included within the analyzed textbooks. On the other hand, the analyzed textbooks included only (10) of these concepts (i.e. each concept of the 10 concepts has no frequencies more than once). Two concepts were repeated within the 8th, and 9th grades, while the 7th grade was not included any concepts. Besides, these results revealed that two concepts of the digital access domain were repeated three times within the analyzed textbooks, while the domains of the digital communications, digital literacy, and digital rights and responsibilities were repeated only two times within these. According the digital laws, digital health, and safety domains, they came as a 2nd rank with one repetition for each of them. Moreover, no concepts of the Digital Commerce, Digital courtesy, and Digital Security domain was included in the analyzed textbooks.
