Abstract

The study aims to represent the data of population distribution and density cartographically on the administrative units in the study area and to identify the best methods that give the reader a correct and clear impression of the population distribution and density. The study depended on some methods such as the thematic method to determined the appropriate representation for the population data which is compatible with the spatial configuration of the study area and number of its administrative units, and the analytical method in analyzing the study maps.

The study found that the best method to represent the numerical distribution of the population is the point method according to the actual population distribution, and then comes the method of grouped cubes; Since it represents an easy and quick understanding of the map. The representation of population distribution according to rural and urban areas with a composite map in a pattern of multiple columns and spatial gradients has a preference in visual perception. and when representing population density on few numbers of administrative units with big area, it is best not to use the area gradient method because the number of units may be equal to the number of categories. In addition, filling the large administrative unit with a color indicating that this distribution is common and has a generalization.
