The level of biological culture among a sample of third grade secondary science students in Taiz governorate

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the level of Biological literacy among a sample of third grade secondary science students in Taiz governorate. In order to answer the research questions, the researcher used the descriptive approach, which set up the test in biological literacy, , and the sample consisted of(277) male and female students from this class was chosen deliberately, from nine secondary schools for boys and girls, the test was presented at the end of the second semester of the academic year 2013-2014. Data was collected and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The results were as follows:

     The level of biological Literacy among  research sample is below the required basic competence for the measurement of (70%) from the total marks on the scale of the Biological literacy.

     The presence of statistically significant differences in the level of biological literacy among a research sample is attributed to gender (male / female) in favor of females, while there is a lack significance differences at this level, according to the variable place of study (city / rural) and the interaction between sex and place of study..

     Based on these results, the researcher presented several recommendations that may contribute to improve the performance of students in the biological literacy.
