Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the pragmatic aspects particularly the speech acts in Surat Al-Dhariyat (The name of a Quranic Surat). To do so, the study has used the descriptive methodology alongside the pragmatic theory in analysis. This study is composed of two sections preceded by an introduction and a preliminary. The first section discusses the speech acts in the Western linguistic studies, and the other is concerned with the speech acts and their effectiveness in this Quranic Surat, Al-Dhariyat. Eventually, the study has come to this conclusion: this Quranic surat includes all five types of speech acts (declarative, assertive, expressive, directive, commissive) though they differ in terms of the degree of illocutionary an perlocutionary aspects.
