Abstract

The study aims to determine the level of parental pressure that mothers of gifted children are exposed to at the primary school in Riyadh by identifying the level of parental pressure for mothers and children. The study has followed the descriptive and correlative approach. The sample consists 160 mothers of the gifted students. The sample is a purposeful sample. The study has concluded that there are parental pressures for mothers of gifted students in the primary school. This is seen through their feeling that they are surrounded by responsibility and pressures. And there are parental pressures due to the demands of gifted children that are more than ordinary children. This is reflected on mother's feeling during the implementation of these demands they feel a lack of appreciation for this effort. In addition, the result has shown a strong positive correlation with statistical significance at the level of significance (0.05) between the level of parental stress and the problems of mothers of gifted children in the primary stage in Riyadh. In addition, the result has shown that there is an effect of the mother’s age, work status, and number of children on the level of parental pressure for mothers and for the children themselves. Finally the study presented a set recommendations, such as: the institutions of gifted children should conduct awareness programs for mothers of talented students, through which they learn about the psychological and emotional characteristics of their children. Moreover, to help them how to deal with them and ensure that their children compete to excel, meet their needs, achieve a degree of psychological and emotional balance.
