The Role of Saudi Universities in Achieving Aspects Of Sustainability in Light of the Saudi Green Initiative

Abstract

Developing sustainability among members of society, improving the quality of life, and protecting future generations has become one of the greatest societal demands in light of climate changes and carbon emissions, believing in the importance of the commitment of Saudi universities to participate in the development of an environmentally friendly infrastructure, and to arrange universities according to sustainable development processes and adherence to green environmental standards. This study aimed to demonstrate the Saudi universities' achievement of aspects of sustainability in the light of the Saudi Green Initiative from the point of view of faculty members. It revealed the differences between the averages of the estimates of the study sample according to the study variables. In addition to presenting a proposed applied project for mechanisms to achieve aspects of sustainability in Saudi universities in light of the Saudi Green Initiative, a questionnaire consisting of five main axes (academic sustainability, community partnership, resource management, planning and management, innovation and leadership) was developed and applied in five universities in the central region, From the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on a sample of (120) faculty members. The results concluded that the estimates of the study sample of the level of Saudi universities achieving sustainability aspects in the light of green initiatives from the point of view of the faculty members came with a high degree for all axes. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to the variables of the study, Achieving aspects of sustainability in Saudi universities in light of the Saudi Green Initiative.
