Novel Belad Al-Qaied (The Commander's Country) A study in light of the semiotics of emotions

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the expressions of emotions, related actions, and associated tensions in Ali Al-Muqri's novel Belad al-Qaied "The Commander’s Country." It seeks to analyze their influence on character behavior and trajectory, as well as to understand how emotions operate and bring about transformations through emotional schema. The study also explores the concept of “homogeneous semiotic existence”, which combines the semiotics of action and emotions. The research is structured into an introduction and two main sections. In the introduction, a distinction is made between the terms "passions" and "emotions," providing a concise overview of key concepts relevant to the approach. The first section delves into the manifestations of the most prominent emotions in the novel, examining their various types and implications. The second section investigates the emotional schema to uncover the sequence of actions, resulting emotions, and the ensuing tensions, transformations, and consequences. The research concludes that the "The Commander’s Country" is a political novel aimed at condemning oppression and tyranny. Emotions serve to expose the falsehood and hypocrisy inherent in the characters and society, leading to a profound internal conflict and ultimately nihilism.
