Abstract

The study aims at identifying the way Sunna or Prophetic tradition deals with a martyr and his family after his death. The researcher uses the descriptive, deductive, and analytical method to analyze Hadiths/ prophet’s Sayings which mention martyrs, how to deal with them, their families and offspring after their death. The study shows that the martyr has general provisions, some of which are that Allah ensures Paradise as the martyr’s final abode, and he does not feel pain. The martyr has also special provisions, some of which are bathing, shrouding, performing funeral prayer and his burial. There are three types of martyrs, which are Martyr of Dunia/ the World or worldly life and the Hereafter, Martyr only of Dunia, Martyr only of Hereafter. The martyr has also general and special influence. Sunna is concerned with the martyr’s achievements, virtues, and his merits after his death. It assumes that a martyr is not to be bathed unless impure or unclean, but to be shrouded and buried in his clothes, and to perform funeral prayer for him. Sunna is also concerned with the martyr’s family after his death, where people should offer food for them, care and support his family and children, and fulfil their needs.
