Abstract

This study aimed to explore the relationship between the quality of leadership behavior among leaders of education offices in the Republic of Yemen and employee performance. Moreover, the study investigated the impact of some selected demographic variables including gender, qualification, experience and governorate offices. The study followed a descriptive approach adopting both survey and correlational methods. A questionnaire consisting of 45 items was built and covered two domains including quality of leadership behavior and professional performance. The questionnaire was administered to a random sample of 222 male and female employees from three Yemeni governorates. Data were analyzed using the (SPSS) statistical tool. The findings of the study revealed that the quality level of leadership behavior among education office leaders was moderate with an overall mean score of 3.4 out of 5 and a standard deviation of 0.5494. In contrast, the level of professional performance was high with an overall mean of 3.68 and a standard deviation of 0.8183. Moreover, the results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) in respondents’ ratings of leadership behavior quality and professional performance attributable to gender, qualification or experience. Likewise, no significant differences were found based on gender, qualification, or experience. However, statistically significant differences were observed in relation to governorate offices in Aden and Lahj provinces. Furthermore, the study revealed that there is a positive, moderate correlation (r = 0.519) between leadership behavior quality and professional performance. Based on these findings, the study recommends enhancing the quality of leadership behavior to sustain high levels of employee performance in education offices in the Republic of Yemen.
