Abstract

The self-concept has emerged in psychological studies as a focal point of the human personality, closely related to the effective employment of behavior and the processes of personal and social adjustment of the individual. In order for the self to be able to face the pressures and human situations concern it, it adopts tricks, defensive mechanisms, and psychological processes of a protective nature called (defensive mechanisms), which are indirect tricks that try to bring about psychological compatibility. These defensive mechanisms are linked to the presence of the other, with whom the relationship is characterized by tension, confrontation, and rejection. The other we mean is a party other than the self, differs in essence. It is not a requirement that the other should be an individual, for it may be a group. Ibrahim Touqan used some of these tricks in confronting the rejected counterpart, who was represented by the British Mandate, the Zionist enemy, and also those who sold the land of Palestine and traded in it from among his own people, in order to protect oneself and reduce conscious coexistence of anxiety. These tricks are: rejection, sarcasm, then affiliation, and the request for emotional support. These tricks played a role in preventing reality by activating the role of trick in self-deception and raising the psychological level to the degree of balance.
