Abstract

This research seeks to shed light on the rhetorical argument in sermons, specifically in the Hajj sermons of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz - may God have mercy on him, by studying the characteristics of the preacher and the listener and the elements present at the time of speech that King Abdullah resorted to in his sermons in order to persuade and win over the recipient. He took into account King Abdullah, in his speeches, reflects the state of mind of the listener, his mental level, and his economic and social status. The King also did not neglect the argumentative elements that affect the content of the sermon, represented by the time of speech, the position, the occasion, and the place, because of its argumentative impact. The researcher relied in her study on the descriptive and analytical approach. In addition to employing the rhetorical argumentative approach in studying the role of argumentative elements in persuading the recipient. The importance of this research is summed up in revealing the characteristics of the speaker and the listener, and how to employ those characteristics in the speech to persuade or influence the recipient. One of the most prominent findings of the research is that speeches contain argumentative elements represented in the time of speech, its appropriateness, and its position. These elements help in changing the listener’s concepts and beliefs, it also aims to know the most important characteristics that must be present in the speaker and the hearer before creating a speech, and to identify the most important existing elements that guarantee the listener’s compliance.
